Presentation Evening

Thursday evening witnessed a delightfuláevent in the life of Bolton School Girls’ Division. It was the occasion of our annual Presentation Evening. On this night in September, we celebrate the success of the girls who have just finished their GCSE and A Level courses. Each girl receives her examination certificates and subject or progress prizes are awarded to girls in all year groups.

Last year’s Year 11 and Year 13 had much to make themselves feel proud. In the summer, the pass rate for GCSE at A* or A grade was 72.5% and at A Level 79.1% of the grades were awarded A*- B.

This year, we were privileged to welcome the Mayor of Bolton and his wife to our ceremony. After a welcome from the Chairman of Governors and my own speech, the Guest of Honour, Louise Relph distributed the prizes and gave her own address. She spoke about her time at the school and her current career as a District Judge, specialising in family law. Heather Harrison, the Head Girl, gave the vote of thanks before we joined in the singing of the school song.

After the formal part of the evening, the celebrations continued in the Arts Centre, where we enjoyed specially made cup cakes, each bearing the school crest and the words: ‘Bolton School Leavers, 2012’.
