Reset Politicians Attitudes to Independent Schools

As we move on in the election campaign, a link to my blog published on TES Online earlier this month ….

When we hear politicians assert that independent schools are not connected to the wider community and need to step up and get involved, the argument simply makes no sense ûánot just to us at the school, but to our whole local area.

Bolton School, in keeping with most of the independent schools in the northern towns and cities, has its roots very firmly embedded in the community. It is both connected and involved.

Philip Britton is the Head of Foundation of Bolton School. He was brought up on Tyneside, took a first in physics at Oxford and did teacher training at Cambridge. He worked as physics teacher, Head of Physics and Deputy Head at Leeds Grammar School before moving to Bolton in 2008. In 2010 he was awarded an MBE for services to physics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics where he has been much involved in physics education, encouraging teachers to encourage the next generation of physicists.
